VICTIM COMPENSATION
The Office for Victims of Crime has compiled a complete contact list by state for Victim Assistance Programs and Victim Compensation Programs that is summarized in the ‘Contacts by State’ pages.
Eligibility varies from state to state, so please double check the requirements from the link below or call the number listed in the ‘Contacts’ page under your state.
Some standard requirements:
Report to law enforcement must be made within a few days of the actual crime
You must apply a claim for victim compensation within a few months to a few years since the date of the crime
Must cooperate with law enforcement and prosecution.
Must not have provoked or contributed to crime resulting in injury or death.
Victim did not engage in illegal activity Submitting an application is not a guarantee for an award.
Include copies of crime-related bills and/or receipts with your application.
At least $100.00 in out-of-pocket loss or liability as a direct result of the crime.
Amount of coverage already paid for by personal insurance cannot be paid out by Victim Compensation Program
